Reviews for A Portrait

Bambu2005.04.25 - 12:12AM1: A PortraitSigned
AQ, this is a very interesting perspective in later decades. I actually like the idea that Hermione took on some of Severus' characteristics after his death. I would say it's far-fetched, except it isn't so in reality. Nicely written.

Author's Response: Thanks so much, Bambu! I rather think that Hermione taking on some of Severus' characteristics was a bit of a combination of her grief over the loss of her husband and the bitterness that she had long kept hidden over the Wizarding World's lack of gratitude for the many sacrifices he had made for them. And thus, in a misguided attempt to make things right, Hermione "curses" her portrait to drive members of her own family crazy. I suppose love can make one do some rather crazy things... Again, thanks for reviewing! :)

Wow, this was so much more than I expected. The 'curse' that Hermione left with her last portrait was extremely clever - cruel, but believable, because like you said, even heroes have their flaws. I really enjoyed your original characters...hope they appear again in some of your future works!

Author's Response: *blushes fiercely* Thank you for the wonderful compliments, darkbutterfly! This is what happens when I let a story sit amongst my files for nearly six to seven months and is alternately played with, deleted, and re-written for much of that time. And the 'flaws of a hero' is what really inspired the piece in the first place. Within the books, we get a clear view of the flaws that Harry has, as well as Dumbledore, in the case of OotP. I began to wonder just what flaws Hermione would show at a later age, especially with the loss of someone she so truly loved... Well, again, thanks for your thoughtful review!

Original. I love the grave marker. Sad but sad in a romantic way.

Author's Response: Thanks so much, Jean. I will admit, the message on Severus and Hermione's grave marker drove me insane. I must have changed and re-written it a million times. I took my frustration out on that stubborn message by mentioning the story of a dying Hermione reaming out her eldest daughter about it. Needless to say, I felt better after writing that in. ;)

Author's Response: *smiles* Thank you, Lupine. I'm delighted you found it original and that you enjoyed the various characters. I tried to make them as realistic as possible.
